The Average Cost Of Weddings Is Huge: Tips On How To Save

A person’s wedding is bound to be the most important day of their life, with the possible exception of the birth of their first child.  Because it’s such an important milestone in life, and because it will hopefully provide a lifetime of memories to look back on, many couples go all out when it comes to the amount of money they spend on their wedding.  Many reports say that the average cost of weddings in America is now nearly $35,000.   That’s a lot of money by anyone’s definition, but the good news is that there are ways you can get married without spending nearly that much.

One option is a non traditional wedding.   These are usually smaller, more intimate ceremonies, where the guest list is made up almost entirely of close friends and immediate family members.  Because a very big chunk of the average cost of weddings depends on the number of invited guests, the smaller your wedding the more money you can save.

Another big factor in the cost of weddings is the timing.  Just as there is for almost every other activity you can think of, there’s a peak wedding season each year, which is generally May through October.  If you can schedule your wedding in one of the other six months of the year, you should be able to save quite a bit on things like caterers, because there will be much less demand for their services.

The third place where you can save big over the average cost of weddings is in the bridal gown.  It’s understandable that a bride would want to look her very best, and wouldn’t mind spending the extra money to do so.  But in most cases, hardly anyone but the bride herself would notice the difference between a top of the line dress and one that’s much less expensive.

The average cost of weddings will probably keep going higher, but it doesn’t mean you have to pay that much.  Follow these tips, and look for other areas where you can save, and you could spend a lot less than the average and still have a very nice wedding.
